Southeast Sulawesi-Canada synergizes local economic development in 5 regions

KENDARINEWS.COM – The Southeast Sulawesi government under the leadership of Ali Mazi continues to work in synergy with all parties. One of them is with the Canadian government through the National Support for Local Climates (NSLIC) and National Support for Enhanced Local and Regional Economic Development (NSELRED) projects.

“The NSLIC and NSELRED projects focus on five areas in Southeast Sulawesi. This year, the project is finished. The five regions are Kendari, Baubau, Wakatobi, Konawe Selatan Konsel) and Bombana,” Asrun Lio, Acting Regional Secretary (Sekda) of Southeast Sulawesi Province, said Sunday (2/10).

This project, said the head of the Southeast Sulawesi (Dikbud) Education and Culture Bureau, is very useful for local governments and creates synergy in local economic development. Starting from the development of high quality regional products, improving PTSPs and commercial centers, strengthening the capacity of technical DPOs and SMEs or cooperatives, encouraging cooperation between regions and the private sector and facilitating access markets for SMEs/cooperatives, both national and international.

“I really appreciate the efforts of the NSLIC project in collaboration with technical DPOs to prepare MSMEs to access international markets. By mid-September, seven products from local MSMEs in Southeast Sulawesi had already placed trial in Belgium. Thanks to the cooperation with Asiabel, we have signed a cooperation agreement,” said Acting State Secretary Asrun Lio.

This program is part of the main regional development program of the Ali Mazi-Lukman (Aman) government in 2018-2023. Achieve regional competitiveness by strengthening the local economy and increasing investment as well as increasing connectivity and partnerships between government, the private sector and the community. This effort falls within the framework of increasing regional competitiveness through the development and improvement of infrastructure and socio-economic aspects.

“On behalf of the Provincial Government of Southeast Sulawesi, we express our appreciation and gratitude to NSLIC/NSELRED, who supported the regional government from 2017 to 2022. Of course, many results have been achieved through this program of cooperation,” Acting Regional Secretary Asrun Lio said.

The program which has been implemented in five regions, he continued, will serve as a model to be applied in other regions. In this way, this program can have a major impact on local economic development in Southeast Sulawesi.

“I hope that the cooperation with the Canadian government will not stop with the end of the implementation of the NSLIC/NSELRED project activities. However, it may continue to be established through other programs in the future,” Acting Secretary Asrun Lio concluded. (kn)
