Tennis News: Novak Djokovic overcame a tough test presented by Vasek Pospisil in the quarter-finals of the Tel Aviv Open 2022 season to maintain his perfect record against a Canadian.

In an entertaining match, the Serb overcame Pospisil’s onslaught before claiming a 7-6, 6-3 win, a win that propelled him into the semi-finals of the Tel Aviv Open. Thanks to this victory, he still dominated head to head against the Canadian with 6-0 and won the 13 sets they played.

“It was a big win, a positive win,” Djokovic said. “Vasek is one of my best friends at the ATP tournament. We’ve known each other for quite a long time. It’s never easy to play against someone you really respect and love, but we’re both professionals and we want to win games. You can see that.”

“I think our level of play was very high, especially towards the end of the first set and the second set. Thumbs up for his fighting power. It’s good to see him again.”

The first seed to appear in her second tournament since winning Wimbledon in July, showed impressive athleticism to hold on to the opening set points. He then struck steadily in the second set and forced the 32-year-old Pospisil into error before emerging victorious after 1 hour 53 minutes.

This week, the 35-year-old is aiming for a third title of the season after winning titles in Rome and Wimbledon. For a place in the Tel Aviv Open final, he will face Roman Safiullin after 25-year-old Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech beat 6-4, 6-1 in just 69 minutes.

Former tennis world number 1, Djokovic now occupies 15th position in the ATP Race to Turin ranking.

In other action, Frenchman Constant Lestienne ousted fourth seed Maxime Cressy 6-7, 6-3, 7-6 to reach the semi-finals of the first ATP tournament of his career at the Tel Aviv Open.

Lestienne, 30, will play his next match against Croatian Marin Cilic, who is in his fifth semi-final of the season after receiving a WO from Briton Liam Broady.
