Jokowi-PM Canada meets and decides to terminate ICA-CEPA

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) expressed his commitment to continue strengthening cooperation between Indonesia and Canada in the future, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

This was conveyed by Jokowi during a bilateral meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Elmau, Germany, quoted on Tuesday (28/6/2022).

President Jokowi is very committed to continuing to improve cooperation between Indonesia and Canada in the future.

“This year, we commemorate 70 years of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Canada. Indonesia and Canada should continue to foster the spirit of cooperation, the spirit of collaboration and the spirit of multilateralism in the face of today’s global challenges,” Jokowi said.

In order to increase economic cooperation, Jokowi is pushing for the completion of ICA-CEPA negotiations in 2023, which will send a positive signal to the Indonesian and Canadian business community.

On this occasion, Jokowi also expressed his gratitude for Canada’s full support for the Indonesian G20 Presidency.

Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi and Indonesian Ambassador to Germany Arif Havas Oegroseno also accompanied Jokowi in bilateral meetings with Prime Minister Trudeau.
