India confirms first death in Asia from monkeypox

Previously, Spain and Brazil reported the first monkeypox-related deaths in both countries.

As we know, Spain is one of the most affected countries with 4,298 cases of monkeypox. This is based on data from the local Ministry of Health’s Emergency and Alert Coordination Centre.

“Of the 3,750 patients (monkeypox) registered, 120 cases were hospitalized and one patient died,” the coordination center said on Friday, July 29, 2022, reported by Al Jazeera.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Health declined to provide further details about the deceased patient. An autopsy of the patient will be performed.

In Brazil, the deceased monkeypox patient was a 41-year-old man.

Brazil’s health ministry said he also suffered from lymphoma and a weakened immune system.

The patient was undergoing treatment in a hospital in the city of Belo Horizonte, in the south-east of the country, and died of septic shock after being transported to the intensive care unit.

“It is important to point out that he has a serious comorbidity, so as not to create panic in the community. The mortality rate is very low,” for monkeypox, Minas Gerais health secretary Fabio Baccheretti said.
