World Cup 2022 News: Bayern Munich star player Alphonso Davies is doubtful for the Canadian national team’s opener against Belgium on Wednesday (11/23) local time as he is still continuing the recovery process from the hamstring injury he suffered earlier this month.
Canada’s national team coach John Herdman has provided the latest updates regarding the injury of one of his star players, Alphonso Davies, saying the player is still recovering and his fitness is n was still not 100%.
“When you have a hamstring injury, there’s always a key moment, when the hamstrings are pushed to their limits,” Herdman said as quoted by ESPN UK.
“We need to recover properly because it could be a long tournament for Canada and the last thing I want is for Alphonso to miss it.”
Arriving in Qatar in recent days, Herdman said Davies was looking forward to playing for his country in their first World Cup since 1986.
“He was very excited, who hasn’t seen a giant poster of yourself when you walked up to the hotel,” he explained.
Besides the Bayern Munich star, two other players uncertain for their 2022 World Cup opener due to injury are midfielder Stephen Eustaquio and No.1 goalkeeper Milan Borjan. Eustaquio has an undisclosed injury and Borjan had a stomach ache during his team’s win over Japan in a friendly match.
“It’s a manager’s life, I mean there are obstacles on the other side but there are also opportunities on the other side.”
