Airlangga’s reasons why next year’s state budget deficit is below 3%

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Minister responsible for the coordination of economic affairs Airlangga Hartarto is optimistic that the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN) deficit will not exceed 3% next year, in line with Indonesia’s economic growth shown by several main indicators with a positive trend.

Airlangga Hartarto said the Indonesian manufacturing PMI was still in the expansion zone at the 51.8 level in October 2022. Meanwhile, the confidence index Consumer (IKK) also showed expansive consumer perceptions at the 117.2 level.

As a result, Airlangga estimates that Indonesia’s economic growth can reach 5.6% on an annual basis (from year to year/yy) or even more in Q3/2022. Meanwhile, inflation in October 2022 also declined to 5.71% YoY from inflation in September 2022 which was recorded at 5.95% YoY.

“Indonesia has a different situation from other countries. Indonesia’s economic fundamentals are solid. Next year [2023]the state budget deficit is less than 3%,” Airlangga said in a written statement on Saturday, November 5, 2022.

In addition, the Minister who is also the General Chairman of the Golkar Party also explained the efforts that Indonesia is currently making to shift energy from fossil fuels to new and renewable energies. One of them concerns the development of large projects hydroelectricity in North Kalimantan which can produce 12 GigaWatt. The plan, Airlangga said, is for the project to become one of the programs of the United States initiative, namely: Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGII).

Additionally, Airlangga considers the inclusiveness of digital economy transformation to be important. The reason is, he added, when a country wants to develop a digital economy, the country needs infrastructure such as: data center.

“Which data center It requires a lot of energy, so it must be supported by renewable energy,” he said.

Airlangga revealed that Indonesia also has the Nongsa Digital Park Special Economic Zone in Batam for data center which was inaugurated last year.
