The British Embassy is the party that came up with the idea of where Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak met at Art Cafe Bumbu Bali.
This was revealed by Art Cafe Bumbu Bali Putu owner Fabian von Holzen. Before the arrival of the two heads of government, he had been invited by the British Embassy in Jakarta about a week ago.
“At that time, I was in Jakarta, called. ‘Bli, I’m from the Jakarta Embassy.'” he said, as quoted by detikBali.
During the meeting, the embassy said that there would be VIP guests arriving at Bumbu Bali Art Cafe. However, at that time, the embassy did not specify who would be present.
The day before the meeting, Fabian was in shock. Because, it turns out that those who attended were not VIPs, but VVIPs. British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak invited Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to visit.
“There (at the embassy) they (said) that personalities would come, but they did not say who. It had not been said that England and Canada would come for a dinner at a table. Nothing at all. But the prime minister come. It’s crazy beautiful,” Fabian said.
Before the arrival of the two PMs, Fabian only communicated with the British. He had no discussions with the Canadian side. Even now, Fabian doesn’t know why his café was chosen as a meeting place.
“The initial story of why they came here also surprised me. But maybe he wants to try some authentic Balinese food,” he said.
However, one thing is certain, the idea for a venue for the Canadian PM and British PM meeting at Art Cafe Bumbu Bali came from the British Embassy. Because the Embassy had admitted to going to several restaurants.
“The idea (choosing the location) came directly from the British Embassy. They said they could check other restaurants, but they said they had the one here,” Fabian said.
Fabian was also touched by the arrival of the two Heads of State. In fact, he admitted he cried and felt very grateful that his cafe was the meeting place.
“I feel very touched. Very lucky, very grateful to those above,” he said.
