Musk, who recently acquired Twitter and is the boss of the social media platform, intends to launch a paid service, with an $8 subscription for users who want to get or keep a blue tick on their Twitter account.

The Tesla CEO has made the move to boost his revenue and crack down on spam accounts after buying the platform for $44 billion last week.

Twitter first appeared in 2006. Various posts were shared on the platform which has a special place in the hearts of its users. From personal daily messages, politics, journalism, various other events.

After 16 years of existence, Musk said, Twitter has rarely made a profit and even reported a net loss of $270 million in the second quarter of 2022.

Meanwhile, for revenue, more than 90% of Twitter’s revenue comes from advertising, which brought in $4.5 billion in 2021.

Musk said he wanted to reduce the social media company’s reliance on advertising partners.

The Twitter system, usually well-known user accounts that are considered to be of public interest, can submit a check to verify their identity for free.

Initially, the tick was intended to prevent fake accounts from impersonating public figures. But as it has been developed, the blue tick is now seen as a status symbol. Sign of liberal elitism.

Musk’s reshuffle was made less than two days after he took over Twitter. According to him, users are no longer required to prove genuine ownership of their account. As reported by The New York Times, Friday (4/11/2022) local time.

This change will begin in the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Users will have a temporary time limit to subscribe or risk losing their check mark. “Current verification for high-level accounts like gibberish. Blue system meaning lord and commoner,” Musk tweeted on Nov. 1, 2022.

Then it applies the rate to the blue tick account. “Power to the people! Blue for $8 a month,” Musk tweeted.

Not only that, other politicians are waiting on Musk’s Twitter. He will lay off a number of Twitter employees at various branches.
