TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Apple claims the iPhone 14 as a phone that has Collision detection functions. This security function is designed for users and is more convenient and tragically comfortable than the satellite emergency SOS function.

By monitoring changes in air pressure, speed, motion and sound, the iPhone 14 will automatically contact the local emergency services operator if it detects a car accident. It’s a nifty feature that can really save lives.
But it’s not just the iPhone 14 that has it. For Google Pixel phone users, the same feature is also available which can detect the situation of the user in case of a car accident. This feature is free.
Here is a list of Google Pixel models that have this feature:
Google Pixel 3a/XL, Google Pixel 3/XL, Google Pixel 4/XL, Google Pixel 4a, Google Pixel 5, Google Pixel 5a, Google Pixel 6/Pro and Google Pixel 6a.
The following steps are required to enable the feature:
- insert sim card
In the event of an unfortunate car accident, make sure your Pixel has a SIM card installed so it can call emergency services. The eSIM package should work fine.
However, if you are not sure whether you have a SIM card installed, please check phone settings > About phone > and then find the telecom operator under SIM status. Or, to be safer, pop out the physical SIM card tray with the ejector and see if a card is inserted.
- Open the Security app
On Google Pixel, he should have downloaded the Security app. If not, go to the Play Store, search for “Personal Security” and click Install.
If this is the first time the Security app is set up, users will be prompted to link the service to their Google Account, add emergency contact (optional) and medical information, and allow Pixel access. at your location.
- Enable car crash detection
To enable Car Collision Detection, tap the settings cog in the top left corner > then Car Collision Detection under Detection & Alerts > and toggle the feature on.
When the user confirms activation, the Pixel displays a warning that the phone will use device location, motion sensors, and ambient sound to detect a car accident, even if the user does not open not the Security app.
If the user accepts passive tracking, tap OK and allow the app to access your physical activity and record audio.
- Using the car accident detection function
To familiarize yourself with the Car Crash Detection Protocol, tap Try Demo on the Safety app’s features page, then tap Get Started. Keep in mind that this is only a simulation of the behavior of the Pixel in the event of a car accident.
When the user’s Pixel begins to beep and vibrate in a siren-like rhythm, the user will be prompted to swipe up I’m fine or call 911. There will also be a countdown from 60 seconds which will automatically trigger the second option if the user is unconscious. and unable to interact with the Pixel.
If the user selects I’m fine, Pixel will follow up by asking the user to mark the detection as “No damage or minor damage”, or call 911.
If the user chooses to call 911, the current location, along with its coordinates, will be shared with the local dispatcher.
There may still be some buggy things about this feature, like language issues. Currently, Google Pixel features support English, French, French (Canada), Italian, Japanese, Chinese, and Spanish. Regionally, this feature is limited to Australia, Canada, France, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Singapore, Spain, Taiwan, United Kingdom and United States.
As a user, of course, you expect this feature to always work for security. According to Google, although Pixel will always monitor changes in the environment, however collision detection success and accuracy cannot be guaranteed. For example, the user is performing a rather extreme activity such as horseback riding Russian mountains. A train game that flips over and over again could be what Pixel considers a real accident and may be enough to trigger a safety feature.
For users who typically rely more on wifi connectivity than cellular cards, it seems like they have to give up if they want security features enabled. According to Google, the phone must use the cellular network for car collision detection. In some cases, if the user’s cellular connection is too weak, the Pixel device may not even have enough power to reach emergency services.
