Canadian Prime Minister says the world is determined by Putin to lose the war in Ukraine

kyiv, KOMPAS.com – The world will do anything for Russian President Vladimir Putin to lose the war in Ukraine.

This was conveyed by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to Mr. Reuters in an interview on Sunday (08/05/2022) evening local time.

“What Putin needs to understand is that the West is really determined and decided against what they are doing,” Trudeau said.

“His illegal war, his escalation, his violation of red lines by choosing to invade Ukraine means we will do everything we can as a world to make sure he loses,” Trudeau continued.

Speaking on the sidelines of his impromptu visit to Ukraine for a dialogue with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Trudeau said Putin had made a big mistake.

“He committed atrocities against civilians, and it was something he did because he thought he could win,” Trudeau replied.

Every May 8, Europe commemorates the 77th anniversary of the Nazi surrender. Russia celebrates Victory Day on May 9.

The unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany took effect at 11:01 p.m. on May 8, 1945. Due to the time difference, the surrender of Nazi Germany had already entered the date of May 9, 1945 in Moscow.

Trudeau also echoed earlier G7 statements about how Putin’s actions humiliated Russia and the sacrifices of its people during World War II.

“Frankly, on Victory in Europe Day, when we all celebrated the victory over fascism decades ago, Vladimir Putin humiliates the memory of millions of Russians who fought and died in the struggle for freedom and war on fascism,” Trudeau said.

Earlier, Trudeau announced the aid of new weapons and equipment for Ukraine on Sunday during an unannounced visit to Kyiv.

Trudeau added that Canada had imposed new sanctions on Russian individuals and entities in connection with Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine.
