Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Russian President Vladimir Putin made another statement regarding gas supplies from Moscow to Europe. He predicts that the amount of gas flow to the Blue Continent will continue to decline.

On the sidelines of his visit to Iran, Putin said the drop was due to the non-return of the turbine that was to bring gas from Russia to Germany via the Nord Stream I gas pipeline. The turbine itself is known to is still in Canada and is being held up by sanctions so he cannot return. .

Putin’s remarks further increase pressure on the European Union (EU), which fears Russia will cut off the gas to wreak economic and political havoc in Europe next winter.

On Wednesday, EU member Germany joined the vote on the cut. Berlin sees Russia’s statement on the turbine as a mere excuse. As we know, this cut was also made by Moscow while Europe covered it with sanctions and criticism for attacking Ukraine.

“I would like to point out that according to our information, this is an apology from the Russian side,” a spokesman for the German economy ministry told reporters.

The EU itself plans to draw up an emergency plan to reduce gas demand in a few months. The EU has also warned member states that with reduced demand, the region will be more resilient even if Moscow cuts its supply.

In addition, the Blue Continent alliance has also researched several alternative gas sources to replace Russian supplies. Some of these countries are Azerbaijan, Qatar, Australia, and the United States (US).
