VNL 2023: Matt Anderson looks solid, USA beats Canada

Volleyball News: The United States enters the final day of the 2023 Volleyball Nations League (VNL) opening week as one of only three undefeated national teams after beating Canada on Saturday (06/10), in Ottawa.

The United States played at TD Place filled with home crowds, with almost every fan supporting Canada. The United States finally managed to secure their third victory with a score of 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-20) in VNL 2023, making their record still perfect in Pool 1.

Matt Anderson, 36, a bronze medalist at the 2016 Rio Olympics, played a key role in the American victory.

He was the team’s top scorer throughout the match. His stats improved from the seven points he scored against Italy to 18 points against Canada.

“Every time we play against Canada, and especially in front of our home crowd, it’s a good experience for us,” Anderson said after the match, as quoted by volleyballworld.

“We will definitely see them again in another tournament this season. I just had a pretty bad ankle problem last week, so it’s been a bit difficult to get my rhythm back, but it’s only a matter of time before we’re all fit again. We have a very experienced team, so it’s just about working hard to get the best results in the matches.
