The delay in the return of the turbines is the reason for the reduction of gas from Russia to Germany
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, OTTAWA — Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau said return from the turbine to the pipeline NordStream 1 who was under repair was a “very difficult” decision. The decision was an exception to sanctions against Russia for its invasion of Ukraine.
On Wednesday (7/13/2022), Trudeau said the sanctions “target (Russian President Vladimir) Putin and his subordinates and are not designed to harm allies and their populations.” He added that Ottawa would continue to provide “strong” support for Ukraine.
The group representing the Ukrainian diaspora in Canada said it would seek judicial review of the Canadian government’s decision to return the wind turbines to Germany. Last week, the Canadian government said it was issuing a “limited and revocable permit” to exempt turbines from Russia sanctions as Europe seeks power flows until it can end to its dependence on Russian gas.
Ukraine’s Foreign and Energy Minister said the move was in line with Russia’s wishes and called on Canada to reverse its decision. Last month, Russia said the delay in returning turbines was the reason for a 40% reduction in gas capacity from Russia to Germany sent via Nord Stream 1. German company Siemens Energy is repairing the turbine in Canada.
