KOMPAS.com – Indonesian Men’s Singles Jonatan Christie regrets the lack of technology hawk eyes when competing in the 2021 Sudirman Cup.
Indonesia will face Canada in the Sudirman Cup Group C Round 2 match at Energian Areena, Vantaa, Finland on Monday (27/9/2021) evening WIB.
In this match, Jonatan Christie was assigned to Indonesia in the men’s singles number to face Brian Yang.
Jonathan Christie appeared in the third party as Indonesia and Canada drew 1-1.
Jojo, the nickname of Jonatan Christie, performed brilliantly in the first game.

He was able to recover point by point quickly and finished the game with a 21-9 landslide victory.
Unfortunately, the 24-year-old wasn’t able to maintain his consistency in the second game.
This can be seen when he’s already leading 20-19, but instead gets cornered and loses 20-22.
Jojo was again unable to put together his best game, so he lost 18-21 in the third game.
After going through a match that lasted an hour and three minutes, the 2018 Asian Games gold medalist lost through drama rubber games 21-9, 20-22 and 18-21.

After the match, Jonathan Christie regretted one thing in the championship, which was not applying technology hawk eyes on Court 3, where he competed.
Consequently, he could not ask exam to the referee at the decisive moment. One of the defining moments happened in the third game, right at the last point.
Jonathan Christie saw flying crossed the line, but was declared by the linesman.
Jojo had the opportunity to protest, but the referee who was leading the match did not change his decision.
“It’s not just about losing, but a championship of this size, the whole field should have the technology hawk eyes for more matches fair“, said Jojo quoting Between.

Jojo himself felt disappointed as he failed to score points for Indonesia.
“Frankly, I’m disappointed with this defeat and I can’t bring points to Indonesia. I apologize for this failure,” he said.
Meanwhile, Jojo thinks Brian Yang isn’t a random player. According to him, the opponent has good abilities as a badminton player.
“I lost and there were a lot of lessons to be learned. When I was up front and had lost a point in the second game, I shouldn’t have changed my strategy by playing fast, which is the Brian’s favorite,” Jojo said.
“As a player, he (Brian Yang) has track record which isn’t so bad,” he said.

Jojo’s loss left Indonesia 1-2 behind Canada. However, the Red and White team can wipe out the two remaining matches.
It was Greysia Polii/Apriyani Rahayu and Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari who managed to beat their opponents for Indonesia to win 3-2 over Canada.
As a result, the Red and White team collected two victories in Group C and qualified for the quarter-finals of the 2021 Sudirman Cup.
Moreover, Indonesia will face Denmark in the last match of Group C to fight for the top spot on Wednesday (29/9/2021) WIB afternoon.
