Startups in Indonesia are growing at 11% per year

Bisnis.comJAKARTA – Minister of Public Enterprises (BUMN), Eric Thohirsaid potential start in Indonesia is still significant. This can be seen by startups growing 11% every year.

Erick also boasted that Indonesia is a country with the 6th highest number of startups in the world, reaching 2,321 startups.

“Startups in Indonesia are also growing by 11% every year,” Erick said at the One Festival event hosted by Microsoft Indonesia and PT Pos Indonesia at Pos Bloc Jakarta on Thursday (11/10/2022).

He said that currently the country with the most startups is still held by America with a total of 73,791 startups. Next come India with 14,793 startups, the United Kingdom (6,569), Canada (3,562) and Australia (2,513).

Also, Erick said that startups in Indonesia are still dominated by fintech up to 23 percent. Although startups in Indonesia are starting to diversify, Erick regrets that only 4% of startups engaged in agriculture are involved. While agriculture or food is one of the 4 potential sources of new economic growth in Indonesia.

Erick explained that food industrialization in Indonesia is only 5%, so it still has huge potential as the food supply chain is disrupted.

“Agriculture is only 4%, but for fintech retail, logistics and e-commerce, it’s significant, reaching 45%,” he said.
