Bisnis.comJAKARTA – Funding start in the third quarter of 2022, it decreased by 34% on a quarterly basis or was the largest in the last decade.
Based on data from CB Insightsquoted on Thursday (10/20/2022), total global startup funding was just US$108.5 billion or Rs 1,159 trillion in the third quarter of 2022, the lowest of the last 9 quarters.
Funding in the third quarter of 2022 also fell by 58% compared to the peak in funding in the fourth quarter of 2021. This decrease in funding also coincides with the tech winter which afflicts several tech companies and startups.
Funding for the mega round also declined to $29.6 billion (460 trillion rupees) or a quarter-on-quarter decline of 44%. Megaround financing in the third quarter was also the lowest in 9 quarters, namely that there were only 144 megaround financings in the world.
Interestingly, in the third quarter of 2022, Asia funding managed to overtake Europe in the mega funding round, with Asia-based companies raising US$1.7 billion or Rs 16 trillion more than the ‘Europe. The United States is currently still leading the category mega toweraccounted for half of the funding for the mega-cycle.
The quarter saw a significant drop in the overall number of mega-towers in some countries such as Canada, Africa, Latin America and Australia which did not see deals of this caliber.
Meanwhile, in the third quarter of 2022, there were only 25 new unicorns in the world and this is the lowest number since the first quarter of 2020.
