November 12 is celebrated as National Father’s Day.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID,JAKARTA – Role dad in the family is very important. Not only the provider, the father also acts as the breadwinner and protector. The father figure should be given the same respect as the mother. Therefore, every November 12 is commemorated as Fathers Day National.

In other countries, Father’s Day has been celebrated since the beginning of the 12th century with the meaning of a day to honor the father. Father’s Day in America and more than 75 other countries, such as Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Turkey, Pakistan, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Philippines and Hong Kong is celebrated on the Sunday of the third week of June.

The birthday is usually celebrated by giving gifts to the father and family activities. Meanwhile in Indonesia, Father’s Day was born at the initiative of the One Heart, inter-religious and cultural association called Perkumpulan Putra Ibu Pertiwi (PPIP). In 2014, PPIP held a Mother’s Day celebration in Solo by hosting a letter writing contest for mothers.

Reported by the site Ministry of Education and Culture, Friday (11/11/2022), the event was well received. There are about 70 of the best recorded letters. After the event, the organizing committee was surprised by the participants’ question “When is the letter writing contest for dad?” When is Father’s Day commemoration?

Therefore, PPIP tried to find information about Father’s Day until a hearing at the DPRD of Surakarta City. The process ended well with the PPIP finally holding a Father’s Day declaration for Indonesia and setting November 12 as the national commemoration of Father’s Day.

On the same day, the Father’s Day declaration was also made in Maumere, Flores, NTT. In the statement, the book Memories for Fathers was also launched, which contained 100 letters from children in the archipelago.
