Know the size of KTP standards for Indonesia and abroad


The size of the KTP (Resident Identity Card) in Indonesia is different from other countries. Some are almost the same size as Indonesian ID cards, others are slightly larger.

The KTP itself must belong to a citizen as a personal identity and fulfill various conditions, such as applying for a job, getting married to several registrations. Let’s find out about the different sizes of ID cards in several countries.

Indonesian standard KTP size

Since 2011, KTP has been in electronic form (e-KTP). The size of e-KTP and non-electronic KTP is also different. Here are the details:



1.Electronic KTP

Quoting the Regulation of the Minister of Home Affairs (Permendagri) No. 38 of 2009, the size of the Indonesian KTP has the dimensions:

  • Size mm: 85.6mm x 53.98mm
  • Dimensions cm: 8.56 cm x 5.398 cm
  • Size in inches: 3.37 inches x 2.12 inches
  • Pixel size: 323.52px x 204.01px

2. Non-electronic KTP

Meanwhile, citing Interior Minister’s Decree no. 94 of 2003, the size of a non-electronic KTP is as follows:

Size of KTP Various countries

Several countries apply the same KTP size. Some are quite large, others are small.

1. Canada and the United States

The size of ID cards used by Canada and the United States is 89 x 51 mm or 8.9 x 5.1 cm.

2. Several countries in Europe

The size of ID cards in various European countries such as England, France, Spain and Italy is the standard size of an ID card, which is 85mm x 55mm or 8, 5 x 5.5cm

3. The Netherlands

Standard card sizes in the Netherlands are the same as some ID cards in the region. Resident ID card measures 89mm x 51mm or 8.9cm x 5.1cm

4. Czech and Hungarian

Maps of Czech and Hungarian countries are larger than the Netherlands, which are 90mm x 50mm or 9cm x 5cm

5. Japan

Japan has a fairly large ID card size, which is 91mm x 55mm or 9.1cm x 5.5cm. Japanese KTP uses two types of letters, namely Latin and Japanese kanji.

6. Most of Asia and Europe

Most countries in Asia and Europe use a size of 90mm x 55mm or 9cm x 5.5cm. Among them, India, New Zealand, Norway, Colombia, Australia, Denmark and Vietnam.

7. Singapore, China and Hong Kong

These three countries have equally large KTP sizes, namely 90 mm x 54 mm or 9 x 5.4 cm.

KTP function

Of course, KTP has many functions for a citizen. Citing the Kulon Progo Regency Population and Civil Registry Office, here are some of the duties of a KTP:

  1. As a valid ID or proof
  2. Prevent data duplication and falsification of identity cards, to create accurate demographic data and support development programs
  3. As a condition for participating in regional elections and general elections
  4. Facilitate people’s access to the services of government and private institutions
  5. As a condition for getting married and taking care of other population documents
  6. Facilitate people’s access to services from government or private institutions
  7. Take care of driving license (SIM) and STNK
  8. Manage passports and immigration
  9. Manage savings, open bank accounts, credit cards, etc.
  10. Make BPJS Health and BPJS Employment.

The requirements for creating a KTP are as follows:

  1. Minimum age 17 years old
  2. Cover letter from Rukun Tetangga (RT) and Rukun Warga (RW)
  3. If you are not originally a local resident, you must attach proof of removal from your hometown.
  4. Copy of family card (KK)
  5. If you are moving from overseas due to relocation, attach a certificate of relocation from overseas issued by the Implementation Agency for Indonesian Citizens (WNI)
  6. Come directly to the village office. e-KTP submission will require an attachment with photo and fingerprint.

In the meantime, the process for creating an e-KTP is as follows:

1. Photocopy of required documents

Usually a number of documents require more than one sheet. Photocopy up to 2-3 copies so that the process of creating an e-KTP becomes easy.

2. Come to the Village

People who want to do e-KTP must report to the sub-district and cannot be represented. Come in and get in line. Generally, e-KTP processing is open from 08:00 to 15:00.

3. Submit documents

Submit copies of the required documents to the agent. It’s also a good idea to bring original documents to show the officers.

4. Take photo and fingerprint

After submitting the documents, the next process is to take photos and fingerprints. If the process is completed, you will receive an introduction letter later, the e-KTP will be taken. This letter can also serve as a temporary identity card while waiting for the withdrawal of the e-KTP.

The manufacture of e-KTP is done according to the queue. You can confirm with the village administration if within 14 days the e-KTP cannot be collected.
