TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Students of Gadjah Mada University (UGM) can now earn eight semester credit units (credits) through community empowerment learning activities and real-work lectures (KKN-PPM). Initially, KKN’s weight was only three credits. KKN is one of the compulsory subjects for undergraduate and applied undergraduate students.
UGM Community Services Branch Secretary Ambar Kusumandari said: UGM is one of the pioneers of this activity KKN with geographical coverage to reach all provinces of Indonesia. Addition Policy credits for KKN-PPM activities from three to eight credits, Ambar said, showing UGM’s commitment to organizing KKN-PPM as one of the irreplaceable learning activities.
“In some universities, KKN courses are an option, but in UGM it is a compulsory subject which is also one of the characteristics of UGM so it cannot be replaced by other courses. Even now, KKN is eight credits,” he said, as quoted on UGM’s official website on Thursday, October 20, 2022.
Head of Real Work Lectures Sub-Directorate Nanung Agus Fitriyanto explained that by participating in KKN-PPM activities, students can earn four credits of the KKN-PPM course component, the Communication Course Community two credits and two additional credits of the course Appropriate Technology Application Courses or Science Management.
“This has been in effect since the II period of the KKN-PPM. Currently, the current KKN is Period III KKN,” Nanung said.
The KKN-PPM itself is one of the community service activities aimed at instilling personality values and producing students who can analyze the problems and potentials of society, have empathy and caring about all forms of societal problems and applying science. and technology as well as science through interdisciplinary collaboration.
According to Nanung, the implementation of the community service program at UGM is dynamic to meet the various needs and demands of the times. This is evident from the theme of the KKN program which can be developed by the students themselves with field supervisors depending on the conditions of each internship area.
The evolution of the number of credits is also one of the proofs of the dynamic implementation of the KKN-PPM program. This is linked to the Independent Campus Independent Learning policy (MBKM) which encourages students to study off-campus and receive recognition for up to 20 credits.
“It is a tit for tat with the ideals of the MBKM which has become a policy from top to bottom. Students received eight credits from KKN, another twelve credits can be obtained from internships, entrepreneurship, mobility and other activities,” Nanung added.
