Home Minister asks NTT provincial government to focus on fixing health system

TIMESINDONESIA, JAKARTA – Home Minister (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian has encouraged the government of Rote Ndao Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) to focus on improving the health system.

“The goal is for the community to have optimal health facilities and insurance,” Interior Minister Tito Karnavian said in a statement received in Jakarta on Thursday (8/18/2022).

The Minister of Interior said that the National Health Insurance (JKN) program is one of the national programs that President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) continues to promote.

For this reason, the Minister of Interior requested the Rote Ndao Regency Government to pay attention to health facilities in its area, as these efforts will enhance the quality of public health.

“Health centers that are not good are checked one by one and the budget for 10% of health is really on time. Let there be no leaks,” he said.

The Minister of the Interior recalled that improvements in public health can be made, one of which involves collecting data on pregnant women and children under 2 years old.

These groups should be registered by name and address, so that nutritional adequacy can be known. Because, he said, adequate nutrition is an important capital to prevent stunting.

Furthermore, the Minister of Interior explained that the first 1,000 days of life are a critical period as it determines the growth and development of the baby, especially for the development of the brain and the body.

Therefore, according to the Minister of Interior, Tito, during this period, the government ranks from districts, sub-districts, to villages, to pay attention to pregnant women and children under two years old, satisfying their nutrition.

“(The achievement of) this nutrition is actually with the potential of existing natural resources. Previously, rice was self-sufficient, and here there are also premium products that are not numerous in other regions. (Here is) a super food whose name is Moringa vegetables. Moringa is a super food because it contains a lot of vitamins,” said the Minister of the Interior.

Moreover, he added, in addition to the abundant availability of fish, in Rote Ndao Regency there are also many chicken and cattle farms. With this provision, the local government is considered able to meet the nutritional needs of pregnant women and children under 2 years of age.

“Please this program is targeted as it involves future generations and concerns the future of Rote Ndao Regency. The future of Rote Ndao Regency is not determined by us today, but by the children of the Rote Ndao community,” Interior Minister Tito Karnavian said.
