Group of Seven (G7) foreign ministers have said they will never recognize Russia’s annexation of 4 territories in Ukraine. The G7 promises new sanctions against Moscow.
The G7 said Russian President Vladimir Putin’s attempt to annex Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions was a violation of international law. The G7 underlined that the 4 regions are an integral part of Ukraine.
“(The annexation) represents a new low in Russia’s flagrant violation of international law,” the G7 ministers said in a statement.
“We will never recognize these so-called annexations or fake ‘referendums’ held at gunpoint,” they said.
“We will impose additional economic costs on Russia, as well as on individuals and entities – inside and outside Russia – who provide political or economic support for these violations of international law.”
The Foreign Ministers of Great Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United States as well as the High Representative of the European Union have called on the “community international community at large to reject Russia’s brutal expansionism”.
They also hope that other parties will also unite in condemning Russia. Because Russia constantly violates it.
“United in our condemnation in the strongest terms of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine and its continued violation of its sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence Ukraine,” he said.
The ministers added that they were “steadfast” in favor of Ukraine’s “right to self-defence” as well as its “undisputed right to take back its territory from Russia”.
“(Russia) must withdraw all its troops and military equipment from Ukraine and respect Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders,” they said.
Putin annexed on Friday (30/9) four territories in Ukraine controlled by its army and urged Kyiv to lay down its arms and negotiate an end to seven months of fighting.
