Tennis News: This month, Felix Auger Aliassime was in top form, but he still scored at the Swiss Indoors Basel 2022.
Aiming for a third title in recent weeks, the Canadian advanced to the quarter-finals of the Vienna Open with a fantastic performance after beating Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic 6-1, 6-0 in just 49 minutes.
Thanks to this victory, the head to head of the two players ended in a 2-2 draw, after Kecmamovic won the first two meetings, while the third seed won the last two meetings which were held during the 2022 season.
“It’s quite difficult to play better than that, on my side,” Auger Aliassime said. “For sure it’s the best game I’ve played in my whole life, not in my career, since I was a kid. It’s an incredible feeling. It’s a privilege to play at this level , to play this way in front of all of you.”
In a clear second set, the third seed lost just seven points. Showing stunning athleticism, he finished the match with 21 winners and 10 aces.
Now on a ten-game winning streak that began after winning titles in Florence and Antwerp, the Canadian has become only the third man to have 50 wins this season after Stefanos Tsitsipas with 57 wins and Carlos Alcaraz with 54. So far in the 2022 season, he was 50-24 winning three titles as well as the first three titles of his career.
Auger Aliassime’s next opponent at the Swiss Indoors will be Kazakh Alexander Bublik. Their head-to-head so far is a 1-1 draw after the Canadians won their first encounter, while the Kazakhs won their last encounter of the 2020 season.
Bublik snatched a 6-3, 6-3 win over Spaniard Albert Ramos Vinolas.
If Auger Aliassime makes it to the semi-finals at the Swiss Indoors, he could face either the Spaniard, the first seed, Carlos Alcaraz, or the fifth seed, Pablo Carreno Busta.
