Tennis News: Australian tennis player Daria Saville has again scored another big win in the 2022 season at the Washington Open (Citi Open) after suffering multiple injuries.

The Australian tennis player surprisingly managed to knock out the first seed and defending champion, Jessica Pegula 7-5, 6-4 in the second round of the Washington Open.

The world No. 88 is now 3-3 against a top-20 player of the season and she picked up her second victory against a top-10 player of the season with a 1 hour 38 minute battle for victory against the world number 7 Pegula. Another win over a top 10 player he got when he faced Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur in Indian Wells in March.

The former top-20 player ranked 627 in February this season after undergoing Achilles tendon surgery which kept him out of the WTA tournament for most of the 2021 season. But he made significant progress to get back into the top 100 after reaching the quarter-finals at WTA 1000 level tournaments, Miami Open and qualifying for the fourth round of the tournament in Indian Wells.

After beating hosts Pegula in their first meeting, Saville is now in its third quarter-final of the 2022 season after Miami and Guadalajara.

While waiting for Saville in the quarterfinals of the Washington Open, it is the Canadian tennis player Rebecca Marino who will be their first meeting.

World No. 111 Marinio knocked out a former top-10 player for the second straight year when she beat Germany’s Andrea Petkovic 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 in the second round of the Washington Open.

After two straight-set wins in qualifying, the 31-year-old Marino opened the tournament with another straight-set victory over American veteran Venus Williams in her first singles match of the season.

Marino picked up a fourth straight win in three sets after 1 hour 53 minutes over world number 68 Petkovic.

While world number 71 Anna Kalinskaya also booked a spot in the Washington Open quarterfinals after her opponent Simona Halep pulled out of the match as Kalinskaya led 7-5, 2-0.

Romania’s Halep fought back 0-4 in the first set but couldn’t hold a 40/0 lead at 5-5 and Kalinskaya broke it for 6-5 before taking the set.

Kalinskaya had a break early in the second set before Halep was unable to continue.

In the quarterfinals, Kalinskaya will face sixth seed Kaia Kanepi or Zhu Lin.
