Daria Saville kills Jessica Pegula in Washington

Tennis News: Australian tennis player Daria Saville has again scored another big win in the 2022 season at the Washington Open (Citi Open) after suffering multiple injuries.

The Australian tennis player surprisingly managed to knock out the first seed and defending champion, Jessica Pegula 7-5, 6-4 in the second round of the Washington Open.

The world No. 88 is now 3-3 against a top-20 player of the season and she picked up her second victory against a top-10 player of the season with a 1 hour 38 minute battle for victory against the world number 7 Pegula. While world number 71 Anna Kalinskaya also booked a spot in the Washington Open quarterfinals after her opponent Simona Halep pulled out of the match as Kalinskaya led 7-5, 2-0.

Romania’s Halep fought back 0-4 in the first set but couldn’t hold a 40/0 lead at 5-5 and Kalinskaya broke it for 6-5 before taking the set.

Kalinskaya had a break early in the second set before Halep was unable to continue.

In the quarterfinals, Kalinskaya will face sixth seed Kaia Kanepi or Zhu Lin.
