Cori Gauff presents Elena Gabriela Ruse at the US Open –

Tennis News: One of the host’s tennis player stalwarts, Cori Gauff has managed to put her feet up in the third round of the 2022 US Open season with a win in straight sets.

The 12th seed played a bit harder to beat Romania’s Elena Gabriela Ruse 6-2, 7-6 in the second round at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Finalist of Roland-Garros 2022 through the first set in just 35 minutes. But he was broken in the third and seventh games of the second set and faced two set point chances but recovered before earning the tiebreak victory.

“I just told myself to send the ball over the net,” Gauff said.

“I missed a lot of chances at net this time. I just thought I was hitting higher than I thought. I know from playing him at Wimbledon that fighting him won’t be an easy task.”

“I’ve been coming to the US Open for years. I remember watching Venus and Serena, and now I’m playing here. I always wanted to win at Arthur Ashe.”

The 12th seed had failed to make it past the second round of the US Open on her previous two visits, but she started well against Gabriela Ruse and snatched 4-1 in the first set before taking a lead of a set.

But Gabriela Ruse didn’t stay silent and turned things around until she took a 5-3 lead. He even took a 40/15 lead but couldn’t finish the set the way he wanted, a situation the 12th seed took advantage of to tie the game 5-5. He kept the momentum going by taking the tie-break victory.

Gauff awaits her compatriot Madison Keys in the third round of the US Open. It will be their second meeting after the Keys won their meeting at Adelaide International 2 earlier this season.

Unlike Gauff, Keys had to fight to cripple Italian tennis player Camila Giorgi.

Keys had to come from 2-5 down in the deciding set before going through the tiebreaker and eventually won 6-4, 5-7, 7-6.

The winner between the two will face either Canadian Rebecca Marino or Chinese Zhang Shuai in the fourth round. Marino dashed Daria Snigur’s hopes with a 6-3, 7-6 win, while Zhang beat Anna Karolina Schmiedlova 7-5, 6-1.
