Copa America Cup: Argentina reaches the final and beats Canada 2-0

PEOPLE’S GUIDE, NEW JERSEY. Argentina, who played in a 4-4-2 formation, managed to advance to the Copa America final, after beating Canada 2-0 at Meltive Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey, at 08:00 WITA, Wednesday (10/7/2024).

The victory earned Argentina a ticket to the 2024 Copa America final against the winner of the match between Uruguay and Colombia, which was played at 08:00 WITA on Thursday (11/7/2024).

Lionel Messi and co’s chances of defending their ninth Copa America title will increase by 16 if they manage to beat their opponents in the final. Argentina are also the team with the most chances of winning the Copa America since 1916, when the cup was first played.

Canada sprung an early surprise. However, two chances by Jacob Shaffelburg in the 5th and 7th minutes failed to reach the target. Argentina responded with a long-range shot by Lionel Messi in the 10th minute. However, the ball also went wide of the target.

Argentina’s first goal came in the 22nd minute. Julian Alvarez took a through ball from Rodrigo De Paul, got past Moise Bombito, then fired a shot that Canadian goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau failed to block.

Winning by one goal made the Argentine players even more confident. In the 34th minute, Angel Di Maria fired a long-range shot. Unfortunately, the ball went wide of the target. The same with Lisandro Martinez’s header that did not result in a goal two minutes later.

As the first half approached halftime, Canada nearly tied the score with Jonathan David’s shot. However, Argentina goalkeeper Emi Martinez managed to thwart the opportunity. The 1-0 score for Argentina lasted until the end of the first half.
