DAILY TRAVEL – Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said his country does not support Israel’s lawsuit against Palestinians in Gaza at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
In several cases discussed at the International Court of Justice, Canada has always been involved in the trial.
“Canada is involved in five cases before the ICJ because we believe in its importance as an institution,” Trudeau said at a press conference on Friday, January 12, 2024.

However, he added an exception to the case of Israeli genocide against Palestinians accused by South Africa in the ICJ trial.
“But our full support for the ICJ and its process does not mean that we support the premises of the case brought by South Africa,” he added.
During the two-day hearing at the International Court of Justice on 11-12 January 2024, South Africa accused Israel of committing acts of genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.

Israel rejected the complaint, saying its country had no intention of committing acts of genocide against Palestinians.
Israel’s actions in Gaza constitute the right to defend itself against Hamas’ attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, several lawyers representing Israel said on the second day of the trial on Friday, January 12, 2024.
The declaration of the right to defend oneself against Israel appears to be consistent with Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau’s statement made before the ICJ hearing.
