Canadian Muslims contribute greatly to the success of society.
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, OTTAWA — Every October, Canadian Muslims celebrate Islamic History Month. This year, the focus is on sharing contributions Muslim cuisine for health, well-being, social peace and social harmony.
“On the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the proclamation of October as Islamic History Month Canada, we take the time to honor and celebrate our country’s large and diverse Muslim community,” Canada’s Housing, Diversity and Inclusion Minister Ahmed Hussen said in a statement.
Hussen says Canadian Muslims contributed greatly to the success of the company as a whole. “From science to business, academia to the arts and everything in between, Canadian Muslims have helped shape the modern Canada we know today. This community has a rich variety of traditions and shares a deep history that we can all learn from,” he said.
Celebrating Islamic History Month in Canada (IHMC) each year aims to share with fellow Canadians the rich heritage and contribution of Muslims to society. In 2007, the DPR representative for Ottawa-Vanier, Mauril Bélanger, proclaimed IHMC. The City of Kingston, Burnaby and the Province of Manitoba also announced the event.
Subsequently, IHMC became an independent body with a new chair in 2013. Current board members hail from Saskatoon, Regina, London, Ottawa and Winnipeg.

Reported About Islam, Monday (10/03/2022), this year’s event is themed “Multicultural Flavors of Muslim Cuisine”. The aim is to share the contribution of Muslim cuisine to health, well-being, social peace and social harmony.
“After more than two years of IHMC’s activities online, let’s renew this year with a celebration of food sharing, fun activities, education and showcasing the rich heritage of Muslim cuisine in many Muslim cultures and enjoy their hospitality,” the IHMC website said.
Meanwhile, Minister Hussen vowed to stand with Muslims against rising Islamophobia and hate crimes. He urged Canadians to join local events to learn more about the Muslim community.
“In October, I encourage all Canadians to join a local event that highlights the history of Canada’s Muslim community. Together, let’s continue to work to build a more welcoming and inclusive country where everyone has the opportunity to succeed,” he added.
