Toronto, Gatra.com – Belinda Bencic gave Serena Williams a bittersweet farewell gift. The Swiss tennis player defeated Serena in straight sets in the last 32 of the 2022 Canadian Open on Wednesday (10/8) night WIB.
This year’s Canadian Open will be Serena’s last. Because he announced that he would soon retire from the world of tennis. It’s just that when he retires, the 23-time Grand Slam winner has yet to give certainty.

Bencic, who is 15 years apart from Serena, managed to beat Serena in the first set 6-2. In the second, Bencic again won with a score of 6-4.
“Tonight was really special. It’s always an honor to be on the court with Serena. Tonight is about him, especially here in Toronto,” Bencic said after the game.
Bencic himself is a gold medalist at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Bencic added that he often met Serena on the pitch.

He admitted that he was very lucky to be able to compete with Serena often. “I’m so lucky to be able to walk on the same ground as you so many times,” Bencic said.
Bencic was ranked number one in the world of junior tennis. He started competing on the ITF Junior Circuit in 2010 at the age of 13, reaching the final in his first event. After defeating Serena, Bencic will meet Spanish tennis player Garbine Muguruza in the round of 16.
