Joni Mitchell plans to hold a solo concert in July 2023.
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Legendary Canadian musician, Joni Mitchell, will soon welcome fans to his first solo concert in 20 years. The concert is scheduled to take place in June 2023 in George Amphitheater, Washington.
The news about the gig was confirmed by musician and Mitchell collaborator Brandi Carlile when she was a guest on The Daily Show on Wednesday. The concert entitled “Echoes in the Canyon” will be held for two days.
“Joni is very happy to be able to perform a concert again. He is still as good as before,” Carlile told presenter Trevor Noah, as quoted by Weekly entertainmentSaturday (22/10/2022).
The “Right on Time” singer says Mitchell’s desire to hold her solo gig came after a duet with Carlile during a surprise appearance at the Newport Folk Festival earlier this year.
“After Newport, Joni said ‘I want to do another show.’ After some thought we decided the right place was the Gorge. We wanted to play there, one of the most beautiful places in the world,” Carlile.
As a collaborator for Mitchell’s concert, Carlile admitted that he was very enthusiastic and excited to see his friend’s performance on stage. Remember, since 2015 Mitchell has chosen to stay away from the stage after suffering a brain aneurysm.
“There hasn’t been a Mitchell concert in 20 years, so that was amazing. Joni is also very excited, because it’s close to Canada and some of his Canadian fans. I couldn’t believe that. could happen,” he explained.
During his Newport duet, Carlile was also impressed with Mitchell’s decision to lead vocals on a medley of his enduring hits, including “Both Sides Now,” “Carey,” “Help Me” and “Big Yellow Taxi.” “. He also viewed the Newport Folk Festival as a monumental and historic event.
“Mitchell is a musician who always knows what he’s going to do in the future, including his stage performances,” he explained.
However, regarding the schedule for this concert, Mitchell has yet to make an official statement.
