Accompanied by Canada, Russia launches a counterattack by blacklisting 200 names

The announcement came shortly after Canada launched sanctions against 33 Russian citizens.

“In response to personal sanctions imposed by Ottawa, we are denying entry to 200 Canadian citizens, on a reciprocal basis,” the department said on its official website, quoted by Reuters.

Among those banned from marching on Russia are federal Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos and British Columbia Premier David Eby, as well as former cabinet ministers Jody-Wilson Raybould, Jane Philpott, Catherine McKenna, Navdeep Bains and Tony Clement.

In total, the list of Canadian citizens banned from entering the Russian Federation to date includes 1,204 names.

Previously, the department had summoned the Canadian ambassador to Moscow in this regard.

Canada has imposed sanctions on 33 senior or former Russian officials and six entities implicated in allegations of “systematic human rights violations” against civilians protesting Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
