La Celeste wins spectacularly, Luis Suarez POTM



DAILY TRAVEL – The Uruguay national team managed to secure third place in the Copa America 2024.



In a match held at Bank of America Stadium on Sunday morning WIB, July 14, 2024, La Celeste defeated the Canadian national team with a score of 4-3 (2-2) on penalties.

Although Canada dominated the match, Uruguay played more efficiently. Uruguay opened the scoring in the 8th minute with a goal from Rodrigo Bentancur.

Starting from the head of Sebastian Caceres, the ball was received by Bentancur who then, turning, burst into the Canadian goal guarded by Dayne St Clair.

Canada managed to equalize the score in the 22nd minute thanks to a volley from Ismael Kone which managed to penetrate the Uruguay goal.

Two minutes later, Uruguay scored a goal through Facundo Pellistri, but the goal was disallowed after seeing the VAR due to off-sideThe 1-1 score lasted until the end of the first half.

In the second half, Canada took a 2-1 lead in the 80th minute thanks to Jonathan David’s goal.

David took advantage of the rebound of Ismael Koné’s shot which was pushed away by Uruguayan goalkeeper Jonathan Rochet.

While Canada almost won, Luis Suarez extended Uruguay’s hopes by scoring a goal in the 90+3 minute thanks to an assist from Jose Gimenez.



The score was a 2-2 draw, forcing the match to go to penalties.
