Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland stressed: Ottawa “does not deal with diplomatic attacks” and does not consider them a useful means of doing business. On this issue, Canada’s conservative and populist politicians also expressed support for the Canadian prime minister, saying they would stand “with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the Canadian people.” Separately, Canada’s Lower House agreed to denounce President Donald Trump’s statement targeting Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, while affirming that the statements released by American authorities harmed bilateral relations and efforts to resolve trade disputes.
On the same day, European Commission spokesperson Margaritis Schinas confirmed: The European Union “fully supports” the joint declaration of the G7 summit in Canada. He also announced: The European Union will continue to defend the multilateral trading system based on the principles of the WTO.
