VNL 2023: China tops the rankings after beating Canada

Volleyball News: China climbed one place to the top of the current Volleyball Nations League (VNL) 2023 rankings with a win-loss record of 5-0 and 14 points after winning by a score of 3- 0 (25-14, 25 -18, 29-27) on Canada in Hong Kong.

For Canada, this result keeps them in ninth place in the rankings. Former leaders Poland also started their Pool 3 match with a victory, but lost a set to the Dominican Republic, dropping them to first place in terms of set ratio.

Chinese star Li Yingying was the match’s top scorer with 14 points, while captain Yuan Xinyue led with three blocks.

Canadian Alexa Gray finished with 13 points. Hilary Howe and Kiera Van Ryk had 12 and 10 points respectively for Canada.

“Canada is a very good team and, especially in the third set, I enjoyed playing against them,” setter Diao Linyu said after the match. “Team spirit plays an important role on the pitch and I am very happy with the match we played.”

Canada’s next match is against Bulgaria on Thursday (06/15) at 1:30 p.m. local time. China will take the field again on Friday (06/15) at 8:30 p.m. local time, also against the southern European team.

Winning the next match is very important for Yuan Xinyue cs to maintain its position at the top of the 2023 VNL rankings.
