VNL 2023: Dominican Republic beats Canada in five sets

Volleyball News: An exciting five-set match took place in Hong Kong on Saturday (06/17) in the VNL 2023 match. The Dominican Republic managed to win 3-2 (22-25, 25-13, 25-17, 23-). 25, 15-10) on Canada.

The victory moved the Dominican Republic to 10th place with a win-loss record of 3-4 and seven points, just below the North American team, which now has a win-loss record of 3-5 and 10 points.

The Dominican Republic showed fantastic blocking throughout the match, with Jineiry Martinez making seven of the team’s 20 blocks. Yonkaira Pena led the team with a total of 20 points, while Canadian captain Alexa Gray scored a game-high 21 points.

In another match, just a day after suffering their first defeat in the 2023 Volleyball Nations League (VNL) and losing the top spot to undefeated China, Poland bounced back in the best possible way.

Magdalena Stysiak led the team to a stunning 3-0 victory over China (25-20, 25-23, 25-22) who hosted Pool 3 in Hong Kong on Saturday (06/17), where the European team improved their record to a 7-1 victory and 20 points, ahead of second place in the 2023 VNL rankings, China with 6-1 and 17 points.

Stysiak had 19 points in this game followed by Martyna Lukasik who had 13 points. Two Chinese players, Gong Xiangyu and Li Yingying each finished the match with 13 points.
