Tennis News: Bianca Andreescu has officially abandoned her plans to compete in the 2024 Australian Open season and shared the latest news on when she hopes to return to competition after a back injury.
The Canadian tennis player has been sidelined from WTA tournaments since August 2023 and has not competed since her defeat in the first round of the Canadian Open against Italian tennis player Camila Giorgi. As a result, he was forced to miss the final Grand Slam of the 2023 season, the US Open which he won in the 2019 season and is expected to be sidelined at the start of the 2024 season.
While speaking at a Canadian Olympic Committee press conference ahead of the quadrennial sporting event in Paris next year, the 23-year-old gave a rough overview of her recovery process . Currently, she has hopes of returning to form in the spring of 2024 and potentially competing in the Sunshine Double (the nickname for the two 1000-level WTA tournaments held in Indian Wells and Miami).
“No, unfortunately I will not be at the Australian Open. “Right now I’m looking forward to getting back into action after the Australian Open or the hard court season in the United States, so maybe Indian Wells,” Andreescu said.
“Currently, I am still suffering from my back injury. His condition is improving day by day. I have done everything I can to get healthy as quickly as possible, but unfortunately it takes time. My frustration level is definitely very high. My injury is to the bone, right? So it takes a long time to recover.
One important tournament that Canadian tennis players will miss during the 2023 season is the Billie Jean King Cup which Canada won after beating Italy in the final.
Having failed for a long time has been a big blow for the 23-year-old tennis player, he remains positive as he looks forward to the opportunity to compete in the 2024 Olympics with Canada. But he is fully aware that he still has some catching up to do to be elected.
“I miss competing and seeing my teammates win the Billie Jean King Cup. I really wish I was there. The injuries really suck. “It’s very sad that I can’t be there because winning the team event was also my dream,” Andreescu continued.
“I will have to fight very hard next season to book a place, but I have always wanted to play in this tournament, so I hope this will motivate me enough to win as much as possible. I feel very confident for the season 2024.”
