Badminton News: Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo has become the third Red and White representative to qualify for the last four of the Indonesia Masters World Tour Super 500 tournament held at Istora Senayan Jakarta.
Going into the match on Friday (27/1) night, the Malaysia Masters 2022 champion successfully brought down Canadian prop Brian Yang in two fairly easy back-to-back games with identical scores 21-16 and 21-16.
In the semi-final of the Indonesia Masters 2023 on Saturday (28/1), Chico will meet an Indonesian-born player from Hong Kong, Angus Ng Ka Long, who in the previous match managed to get rid of the men’s singles from Japan, Kanta Tsuneyama in consecutive matches 21-19 and 21-19.
Apart from Chico Wardoyo, the hosts also pushed through two other representatives in the last four of the tournament with a total prize pool of USD 420,000 or around Rs 6.5 billion, namely world number 3, Jonatan Christie and men’s doubles Leo Rolly Carnando/Daniel Martin.
Asian Games champion Jonatan Christie will play the semi-finals against former Chinese world number 2 Shi Yuqi, while Leo/Daniel will meet former Japanese world champion Takuro Hoki / Yugo Kobayashi.
Meanwhile, the world’s 5th ranked women’s doubles pair Pelatnas, Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti had to stop their work in the quarter-finals when they dropped fourth seeded Thailand, Jongkolphan Kititharakul/Rawinda Prajongjai through a rubber game battle which was quite exciting in 1 hour and 24 minutes with a score of 21-16, 17-21 and 18-21.
