Prime Minister (PM) Canada Justin Trudeau said he was shocked and saddened mass stabbing which killed 10 people. Trudeau vowed that those responsible for the knife attack would be brought to justice.
As reported The gardiansOn Monday (5/9/2022), at least 10 people were killed and 15 others injured in a mass stabbing attack that occurred in 13 different locations across the province of Saskatchewan, including in the James Smith Cree Nation and the village of Weldon.
In a statement released at midnight Sunday, Trudeau denounced the massive knife attack as a “horrible attack.”
“I am shocked and saddened by today’s horrific attacks on the Cree Nation of James Smith and Weldon, Saskatchewan, which killed 10 people and injured many more,” Trudeau said in a statement.
“I urge everyone in the area to listen to the advice of law enforcement to take precautions and take appropriate precautions.”
The James Smith Cree Nation is a Canadian Indigenous community with a population of approximately 3,400 people who primarily engage in farming, hunting and fishing. Meanwhile, Weldon is a village inhabited by only 200 people.
Trudeau said in a statement that the Canadian government had “direct communication” with community leader James Smith Cree Nation and said he was “ready to assist in any way possible.”
“Those responsible for this horrific attack must be fully brought to justice,” Trudeau said in a statement.
