The Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs and Investment of the Republic of Indonesia (Menkomarves), Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, said that ports play an important role in Indonesia, which is a maritime country.
Currently, in 2022, Indonesia is the only Southeast Asian country to be in the top 20 countries with good port performance based on median container ship waiting time reaching 24.9 hours .
“Indonesia’s position is above several other developed countries such as Italy, France, Greece, Germany, the United States, Russia, Australia and Canada,” said Luhut at the Green Port Award event which aired virtually, Wednesday (28/12/2022).
Luhut also said the achievement was a result of digitization efforts that the government continues to encourage. Digitization in the port sector is considered to have been able to boost efficiency in order to increase state revenue and reduce opportunities for corruption as much as possible.
“The development of port connectivity and digitalization in Indonesia is on the right track. Let’s keep improving this, never let us slack off because I’m frankly very proud when it’s done,” he said.
