Lille boss admits it was difficult to keep Jonathan David from Manchester United

DKLIKNEWS – Boss Lille Paul Fonseca admits it will be difficult to keep hold of Jonathan David amid interest from United.

The striker has impressed this season, scoring nine goals and providing three assists in 15 appearances for Lille, while he also started all three of Canada’s group matches in world Cup 2022.

United are currently linked with the 22-year-old, as they look to strengthen their post-contract backline Cristiano Ronaldo disconnected.

They have been strongly linked to the move Cody Gapobut he recently signed for Premier League rivals liverpoolleaving United to look to other options.

With Chelsea also being David’s biggest admirer, Fonseca admits the striker could leave Lille in the near future.

The Lille head coach told La Voix des Sports: “It will be difficult to keep Jonathan David at the club next season.

“There aren’t many strikers with his skills and numbers in Europe. He’s only 22. I think top European clubs will try to sign Jonathan David.”
