Tennis News: Italian tennis player Lorenzo Musetti will start the 2023 season by playing in the inaugural edition of the mixed team competition, the United Cup.

The world number 23 arrives in Brisbane on December 24. During pre-season he trained in Monte Carlo with his coach, Simone Tartarini.

The Italian tennis player beat Carlos Alcaraz in the final of the ATP 500 level tournament which was held in Hamburg. He reached a career-high to date, world No. 23, after beating compatriot Matteo Berrettini to claim his second career title at Napoli last October.

He won the Supertennis Award for the best Italian tennis player of the 2022 season.

“I finished a fantastic season. I achieved all the goals I had set myself previously. The results exceeded my expectations. I became the third best Italian male tennis player. My target is even better. J hope to be a top tennis player. This means achieving great results, because Jannik Sinner and Matteo Berrettini are two of the best Italian tennis players and will return to the top 10 in the rankings. Kai is not a rival and we respect each other. We were an impressive team when we played for the national team in the Davis Cup,” Musetti explained in an interview with Italian sports daily La Gazzetta dello Sport.

He lost to Canadian tennis player Felix Auger Aliassime in the Davis Cup semi-finals and still regrets that Italy couldn’t top the group.

“We have a very solid team. It will be fun to play with our best team. Several tennis players like Matteo and Jannik were injured. I felt so tired during the Davis Cup final after a long season. I will plan more carefully next season and take a few weeks to rest and prepare for bigger tournaments,” added Musetti.

“The Davis Cup and the ATP Finals are the most important tournaments. This goal motivates me. If I achieve this goal, I want to prepare myself as well as possible for the tournament. The victory in Hamburg was a turning point in my career. J realized that I could compete at the same level as the best tennis players in the world. I will have points to defend in the first half of the coming season and I will try to take advantage of this situation.”
