Canada qualifies for 2022 World Cup, ends 36-year wait

The Canadian national team is coming off a convincing win on Matchday 13 2022 World Cup qualification Area concacaf (North, Central America and the Caribbean).

They thrashed Jamaica 4-0 in a match at BMO Field on Monday (28/3/2022) early morning WIB.

The Canadian national team opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a goal from Cyle Larin, followed by a strike from Tajon Buchanan (44th).

In the second half, Canada added two more goals through Junior Hoilett (83′) and an own shot from Jamaican Adrian Mariappa (89′).

Canada currently lead the Concacaf Zone 2022 World Cup Qualifier standings with 28 points from 28 games.

With one game less, Canada is already nine points clear of fourth-seeded Costa Rica, which has played just 12 times.

For information, only three teams from the Concacaf zone have the right to automatically qualify for the 2022 World Cup final.

Meanwhile, the fourth-placed team still has hopes of qualifying, but must go through the intercontinental round of the play-offs (vs. the winner of the Oceania zone).

For Canada, this is an extraordinary feat, given that it has not been to the World Cup for a long time.

The last time the Canucks played at the World Cup was in 1986, 36 years ago.
