The first thing Félix Auger Aliassime will do at Turin 2022

Tennis News: When Felix Auger Aliassime arrived in Turin for his ATP Finals debut, he saw his name juxtaposed with the other seven players of the season and recalled childhood memories as he looked at his locker.

Ahead of the season-ending tournament for the first time in his career, Auger Aliassime revealed: “It was a special twist here. Have a private locker, your face at the door. I remember seeing behind-the-scenes videos of his progress and thinking, “How cool! to have a private locker. And here I am. When I got here it was the first thing I went to.”

“I remember watching the ATP Finals for the first time when I was a teenager. I remember being inspired by it and thinking it would be great to be a part of it. Now that I’m here, it’s a incredible moment. It’s really special and I hope it’s not the last time.”

As the world number 6 pursues a teenage dream, he is still motivated to achieve more. The youngest tennis player in the ATP Finals this season has won 56-25 so far in the 2022 season. Only two other male players have had more wins than him, namely Stefanos Tsitsipas (60) and Carlos Alcaraz (57 ).

In indoor hard-court tournaments, the Canadian has recorded 27 wins and four titles at the tournament, including in Rotterdam, Florence, Antwerp and Basel. Towards the end of the season, he even won 16 consecutive victories, including three consecutive titles, a feat that earned him a place in the ATP Finals.

“It’s something you believe in in your process and hard work, but it’s actually a step that increases the challenge,” Auger Aliassime continued.

“I’m like facing a high wall to qualify after the US Open, there are several other players who are the main competitors. To go as I did back then, it showed a lot of character and mental toughness to push and do my best to qualify for this tournament.”

Second Canadian to participate in the ATP Finals (after Milos Raonis in 2014 and 2016), he will first seek to avenge the defeat of Casper Ruud, who beat him in the Rogers Cup in August, in his first match group stage. In the Green group, he will also play against Rafael Nadal and Taylor Fritz.
