Young farmers in Semarang Regency process taro into tobacco and export it to Australia

semarang, central java – Groups of farmers who are members of the Berkah Karya mixed commercial group have succeeded in transforming taro leaves into the tobacco. This group of farmers, chaired by Agus Subekti (43), a resident of Kalangan Hamlet, RT 01 RW 05, Sukoharjo Village, Pabelan District, Semarang Regency, even exported to Australia.

Agus Subekti said that from this creation of beneng taro, the tubers can be made into chips or sponge. Taro stalks, can be used for crafts to replace water hyacinth. Priority is given to chopped cured tobacco leaves that have been exported to Australia.

“We have exported 6 tons of chopped taro leaves to Australia. He said the chopped taro is used for tobacco blend. This year we are exploring the possibility of exporting to UAE and Canada,” did he declare. Wednesday (9/11/2022).

This creativity is appreciated by Governor of Central Java Pranowo Reward while reviewing the tobacco production site from taro leaves on Wednesday (09/11/2022). Ganjar took a close look at the tobacco-making process in a resident’s home that served as a production center.

“I appreciate what the farmers are doing here. We know that our very rich natural resources need to be touched by creative people like the young people here. It’s part of the creative economy and it’s not difficult,” said- he declared.
