TikTok clarifies access to user data

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – TikTok admits its app data isn’t just stored locally. But user data ICT Tac particularly in the United Kingdom and Europe, accessible to certain employees in China. The statement was made by TikTok amid concerns over the potential for (data) misuse.

TikTok, the original social video app China, describes these rules as part of an update to the privacy policy. TikTok said the move was also to ensure a consistent, enjoyable and safe experience for its users.

TikTok adds its privacy policy based on a demonstrated need to do its job.

TikTok’s privacy officer in Europe, Elaine Fox, in a statement on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2022, said her efforts were based on limiting the number of employees with access to European user data. Fox wants to minimize data flow outside the region and store European user data locally.

TikTok’s recognition comes amid growing questions over data access for TikTok users in countries like America, Britain and others. Concerns about its misuse by the Chinese government under its strict control have also been a frequent topic of discussion recently.

Besides China, TikTok staff can also access user data in a number of European countries and the UK, Brazil, Canada, Israel as well as the US and Singapore. The new rules will come into effect on December 2, 2022.

TikTok owner ByteDance has repeatedly denied that its data is accessible to the Chinese government. However, there are demands to ban the popular app out of fear.

Earlier this week, a US official issued a call for applications ICT Tac banned in America. The app has also been investigated by the Irish Data Protection Commission as several governments, including the UK, refrain from operating official government accounts on the platform.
