Armed with the CoE, the UMM becomes one of the few campuses of the G20 event

Only 14 private and public universities were invited.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MALANG — The contribution of Muhammadiyah Malang University (UMM) is not only limited to the national level, but also to the international level. Newest, White Campus MUM invited to attend the Group of Twenty (G20) event held in Bali on Thursday (20/10/2022). There were only 14 private and public universities that were invited along with all ministries of the Republic of Indonesia as well as representatives from various major G20 member countries.


On the agenda, there are a number of important issues to discuss. From the fields of commerce, health, to digital transformation. Furthermore, it is also related to energy, security, net zero SDG and others. Selected campuses have been assessed by the G20 and are deemed worthy to discuss related issues. Present representing the White Campus, UMM Vice Chancellor II Dr. Nazaruddin Malik, Mr. Si explained that the meeting was like a summit declaration.


Nazar, his nickname, said that educational institutions have an important role in the G20. Several campuses will actively contribute to the implementation of the various declarations produced during the international forum. Then it became a question of international education.


He also saw an opportunity to offer the Center of Excellence (CoE) program that UMM had developed at the forum. For example, in the field of digital transformation in the implementation of the Digital HUB CoE UMM. Even with the development of the metaverse and a series of professional schools that support digital transformation.


Interestingly, during this event, the development of the talnet hub immediately received direction and input through discussions with Ilham Habibie. One of the important things in the digital transformation program is identifying the problems in Indonesia so that the talent hub can be the right solution. “Especially the UMM digital hub which has accelerated to become a solution to Indonesia’s digital human resource needs,” Nazar said.


There are also opportunities in the field of renewable energies because the UMM has a micro hydroelectric power station (PLTMH) which is often used as a reference for energy development by many actors. This PLTMH is also part of the UMM Sharing for the Country which aims to develop the construction of 1000 PLTMH in different regions. “Mostly to support the community’s economy. WMU certainly wants to make its maximum contribution to the G20. Especially on this occasion, Indonesia is the host,” Nazar said.


The G20 or Group of Twenty is the main forum for economic cooperation at the international level. Its members are the countries with the largest economies in the world. A total of 19 countries and 1 institution of the European Union are part of it.


The G20 also represents more than 60% of the world’s population, 75% of world trade and 80% of world GDP. Members of this forum include South Africa, United States of America, Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, India, Indonesia, United Kingdom, ‘Italy, Japan, Germany, Canada, Mexico, the Republic of Korea, Russia, France, China, Turkey and the United States of America Europe.
