Jakarta (ANTARA) – Canada’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Nadia Burger, said the visit of Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship (HMCS) Winnipeg frigate to Jakarta is a form of joint commitment by Canada and the Indonesia to strengthen relations.

“As Canada and Indonesia celebrate 70 years of diplomatic relations, this ship visit is an expression of our shared commitment to deepen this increasingly important relationship,” Nadia said at a press conference in Jakarta, Friday.

He said Canada appreciates its strong and growing bilateral relationship with Indonesia.

For Canada, he continued, Indonesia is an important defense partner in the Indo-Pacific region.

Canada appreciates Indonesia’s role in promoting peace, stability and prosperity in the region, said Ambassador Nadia.

HMCS Winnipeg Commanding Officer Annick Fortin said her group will train with the Indonesian Navy when they visit Jakarta.

“We will be training with our Indonesian partners during our first visit to Operation PROJECTION in 2022. In keeping with our motto ‘One in the strength of many’, HMCS Winnipeg stands ready to deliver on Canada’s commitment to global peace and security and to strengthen ties with Canadian allies and partners,” said Annick Fortin.

HMCS Winnipeg, one of the Royal Canadian Navy’s frigates, docked in Jakarta for a visit from August 31 to September 3 during her voyage to the Indo-Pacific region as part of Operation PROJECTION.

This vessel will participate in the deployment of cooperation with the Indonesian Navy to enhance security and promote regional stability.
