Shooting in Canada kills 2, including Toronto police officer

TRIBUNNEWS.COM – The shooting in Toronto, Ontario, Canada killed two people, including a police officer.

A Toronto police officer who was on a lunch break during training was fatally shot in the city of Mississauga by a suspect.

The suspect was later taken into custody in Hamilton after the second fatal shooting, authorities said at a news conference Monday night.

Authorities said another victim in Mississauga was injured.

The suspect had fled to Milton and allegedly shot three other people, killing one, police said.

Constable Andrew Hong, 48, of the Toronto Police Traffic Unit was shot at close range and died at the scene, Chief James Ramer told reporters.

“This is bad news for his family and for all members of the Toronto Police Force and our entire policing community,” the police chief said. CNN.

“We will lean on each other as we work to support Police Hong’s family, and each other, in our grief.”

Hong leaves behind a wife and two children.

He has worked in the department for 22 years.
