TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Badminton World Championship or BWF World Championship 2022 will be held in Tokyo, Japan from August 21-28, 2022. Launch Olympic Games, 350 players from 47 countries will compete in this Japanese capital.

Indonesia sent 16 representatives from five branches of badminton to participate in the world championship badminton 2022. These five sports include men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles.

What is the history of BWF?

Initially this body was born under the name of the International Badminton Federation (IBF). However, the IBF ran into political problems with some of its members in the 1970s. This led to the formation of a new organization as a badminton platform called BWF. This organization was created by the majority of countries in the continents of Asia and Africa.

Over time, the IBF and the BWF were united using the BWF name as the founder. Meanwhile, the name BWF itself was not determined until after the Extraordinary General Assembly held in Madrid on September 24, 2006. The reason for this is that the IBF is often misunderstood as the International Boxing Federation which is linked to world boxing organizations.

Initially, the federation had only nine members worldwide, including Canada, Denmark, England, France, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Scotland and Wales . However, along with the development of badminton, the membership has also grown to 65 national badminton associations today. Or now BWF has 196 members.

By law, the BWF was registered in the International Organizations (Privileges and Immunities) Act 1992, with registration number PU(A)363 in Malaysia. Likewise with its office in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

First held in 1977, the World Championships have become a premier global competition which in its 20th edition brought together 345 athletes from 47 Member Associations and was broadcast in high definition to viewers around the world. The winner at the time was the team from Denmark.

Before 1977, the championship considered the highest was the badminton championships all of england. Then in 1985, the world championship began to be held every two years. Then in 2006, this tournament became a regular event every year. However, it was not realized in the Olympic year in which this sport was contested.
