Indonesia’s implicit message to China on the 2022 Garuda Shield: North Natuna belongs to the Republic of Indonesia

ZONAJAKARTA.COM – One of the largest joint multinational military exercises in the Indo-Pacific region commissioned by Indonesia titled “Super Garuda Shield” was officially opened on Wednesday, August 3, 2022.

The opening took place in Batureja, South Sumatra, in the presence of the Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces, General Andika Perkasa and the Commander of the United States (US) Army Charles Flynn.

Antara news agency said Garuda Shield 2022 is a new milestone in the history of military training between the United States and Indonesia.

The mention is not without reason, as this year’s Garuda Shield 2022 has seen a significant expansion.

It was noted that more than 5,000 people from various countries participated in this year’s Super Garuda Shield exercise, making it the largest since its launch in 2009.

Officially, the exercise is under the auspices of 14 nations and will feature multilateral partnerships and joint interoperability.

The 14 countries are Indonesia, United States, Canada, France, India, Malaysia, New Zealand, South Korea, Papua New Guinea, Timor Leste, United Kingdom United, as well as three countries that have recently participated such as Australia, Japan and Singapore.
